Description
The magnificent summit of Haleakalā is so beautiful. There are sixteen pu'u . volcanic cinder cones. One of these cinder cones, Pu'u o Māui the highest cinder cone rises 500 feet from the crater's floor.
This is Ka Lu`u o ka `Ō`ō . . and Sliding Sands Trail - Keonehe'ehe'e Trail . .
This extremely strenuous trail descends 2,800 ft. in the first 4 miles to the valley floor.
Total elevation gain/loss between the trail head and the cinder cone is approximately 1,400 ft..
Kalahaku rim overlook, at 9,324 feet above sea level provides a beautiful view of the crater floor and when the atmospheric conditions are good the geological details and beautiful colours are fascinating . .
